Modern Dance

As students progress to the top tiers of the Ensemble Program, a distinction is made between Lyrical and Modern dance. Modern Dance is a broad genre of theatrical dance with a technical base and many styles emerged as a rebellion to the strict nature of classical Ballet.   Class consists of a full center warm-up with an emphasis on core strength, arm swings, and release of the upper body.  Progressions across the floor will teach students the building blocks of the Lester Horton technique.  Improvisation and conceptual choreography play a large role in the dancer's training; helping to build confidence and substance in our dancers.
